Not suprising, but NYC just banned Trans Fats at all restaurants. This has been in the news for a while now, so we knew it was coming. Trans Fats have been shown to lower good cholestoral and raise bad cholestoral. Not good for anyone.
Here is the problem. Should the government be controlling what we eat? Probably not. However, how many times in the past has the government banned substances that are harmful to the general public? Think about cigarettes. They cause cancer. Opps, wait, they’re not banned! I forgot how strong the tobacco lobby is.
What responsibility does the government have to ensure we are healthy human beings? After all, it is our tax dollars that are paying for every unhealthy individidual’s medical care in the form of Medicare or Medicaid.
Of course, you can not force people to live healthy lives. But next time you read about skyrocketing health care costs maybe it will cause you to think about that Big Mac you had for lunch!
