My middle school daughter is participating in a program at her school for Kiva.org. The are raising money to loan to people in developing countries. These loans help small businesses buy the necessary material that they need to make their business work!

What a fantastic idea! I love the old adage: Give a man (or woman) a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Besides donating to my daughters school, I have loaned money to a woman in Kenya to help her buy cement for her business.

Sometimes money is need to help feed and clothe those who don’t have anything, but we need to be better at helping others get back on their feet in a way that will make them succeed in the future. How come we don’t have anything like this in the US? Or maybe we do and I just haven’t heard of it.
