It seems the Navy is proposing to build a new air field in North Carolina. Unfortunately the plan calls for the field to be near a wildlife refuge. Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is the home to tundra swans and snow geese during the winter. Opponents are hoping that they will decide to build the 30,000 acre site elsewhere and not in Washington and Beaufort Counties.

This was the last public hearing and there have been more than 1500 public comments filed opposing the field. I wonder if this is going to effect Beaufort NC real estate? Is the airstrip really necessary?
