As you may have heard, Micheal Moore is in an uproar. He is not happy with the coverage that CNN gave to his new “documentary” SiCKO. It is interesting that Moore seems to think that any of his movies are above critical review. That is his issue with CNN. CNN and Dr. Gupta critically reviewed his movie and found some issue with it. A CNN spokesperson said:
It’s ironic that someone who has made a career out of holding powerful interests accountable is so sensitive to having his own work held up to the light by impartial journalists, as we did in our examination of ‘SiCKO.
The biggest issue that CNN had was with Moore’s use of facts. I have taken many statistical courses and know that you can’t compare one number from one report with another number from a different report. Although Moore claims that what he did was perfectly fine, it just smells a little fishy.
Moore claims Cuba spends just $251 per person on health care and the US spends over $7,000 per person on health care. Of course, these numbers are from two different reports and two different YEARS! Of course, if you use the same year the US still spends over $5,000 per person on health care. Moore doesn’t give his movie and credence if he manipulates the facts that he is reporting.
Another issue that CNN had was Moore’s sugar-coating of national health care. On his website, Moore says: Every resident of the United States must have free, universal health care for life. Gupta believed that the movie left the impression that a national health care systems would be “free.” Of course, we all know what that means - higher taxes.
