We all know that carrying a box cutter on a plane is illegal. However, a 21 year old man from Tampa decided that he would try to smuggle one on anyway. The man, Benjamin Baines, Jr., was carrying a backpack. Inside the backpack was a book entitled “Fear Itself.” When the backpack went through the X-ray machine at the airport, the security guard noticed an image of a box cutter. It seems that Baines had hollowed out the book and inserted the box cutter into the hole hoping to avoid detection.

Also found in the backpack were books titled Muhammad in the Bible,” “The Prophet’s Prayer” and “The Noble Qur’an.” He was also carrying a copy of the Quran and the Bible.

Baines claimed that he forgot about the box cutter and didn’t make the hole in the book. He later changed his story and said he did make the hole to hide money and marijuana from his roommates.

Baines can face up to 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines for the federal charge of attempting to board an airplane with a concealed dangerous weapon.
