I just read, with much glee, an article by Paul Mushine. Our “beloved” governor, Jon Corzine, has been holding town meetings throughout the state trying to convince the public that his toll hike plans are a fantastic idea. Corzine talks about the plan and then takes questions which he really does not answer. Mushine, has put together an fantasy situation in which Corzine does answer the questions truthfully. My favorite:
Q. I’ve noticed that you added $4 billion in borrowing to your $38 billion plan just to pay off the interest on the bonds till 2010. Why not raise the tolls right away to begin paying back the money?
A. Because I’m up for re-election in 2009, you dimwit. Next!
The whole article is well worth the read. It is what is on every politicians mind but they are afraid to say it.
