Now that the elections are over, I can enjoy watching television again! There were so many political ads that it was making me nauseated. We live in an area were we not only get New Jersey political ads, but New York ads as well for a bigger dose. I would have loved to be living in Canada on the bell tv system for the last few months and missed all the ads.

If you really want to know if the political ads are true (or if you have heard political rumors and want to check them out), try FactCheck.org. FactCheck.org is a great resource. You can simply type in a name or term in the search box and browse through the results. I typed in Christie and found out concerning an ad by Corzine:

One ad makes it appear that a newspaper called Christie’s proposed corporate tax cuts “fiscally irresponsible.” But the newspaper said nothing of the kind; it simply reported on Christie’s proposal. It’s the Corzine camp’s opinion that the cuts would be irresponsible

Use FactCheck.org is you want to find out the truth in the political mud smearing.

I was sad that I was unable to attend the 9/12 rally in Washington, DC last month. I really wanted to pack up my Eagle Creek luggage and head on over to the event. Living here in New Jersey, I get the feeling that there are a number of people who are fed up with high taxes and government spending but they just don’t know how to make any changes. Unfortunately, these are the same people that continue to vote for the incumbent politicians.

If you really want to make a change in government (and it was obvious from the Presidential race that many people do), you need to follow the GRIP mantra – Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians. That’s right. Every election (primaries included) you need to go to your voting box and put a check next to the person who is NOT the incumbent. This is the only way to send the message – you are here to do the will of the people, not follow your own agenda.

Too many voters believe that their representative is doing a great job. If that is the case, then why is the approval rating of politicians in the toilet. In order to make change, we need new faces.

Vote out the incumbents!

I am always hesitant about a candidate when I read that they are receiving a large number of support from college students. Unlike the American Revolution, where a small group of individuals raised awareness about the tyranny of England and vowed to give the people individual rights including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, other revolution that we now do not admire have been propagated on university campuses.

Take for instance China. The university students in China were all in support of Mao’s plan. They had sit ins, they ratted out their friends and neighbors, all for the good of the country. Yet, we know realize that communize takes away many individual rights. A similar situation happened in Iran. When Iran became the Islamic Republic, many university students were on the forefront of supporting the new regime.

Why do college students seem to be more radical in their views than the rest of the country? Party because of idealism and naivety. When you are studying governments and political viewpoints, the ideal looks very appealing. Sure it would be nice if everyone contribute to society equally and that we had all our needs met. But real life does not always afford this idealism. College students have not experienced enough of real life to grasp the whys and why nots of political factions and positions.

This does not mean that college students have not been on the forefront of changing the nation for the good. Think the civil rights movement. Many college students stepped up when others refused to do so. However, we must be wary that radical change or revolution is not always a good thing. In fact, it can be a terrible thing.

One of the reasons I want to start my own political party is that there are currently almost 300 million people in the US, about 128 million which are registered to vote. Now consider this. We only have two main political parties!! So that is about 64 million people per party. Do you think that is a true representation of the views of all 300 million people? Doubtful.

Remember the Presidential Election of 1992? There was a new Presidential Candidate by the name of Ross Perot. Ross Perot, in effect, started his own party. People were sick of the same old politics that had run Washington for the last 80 or so years. Ross Perot received almost 20 million votes. Bill Clinton, who won the election, received only 43% of the vote. In effect, 57% of the American people DID NOT want him to be President.

Unfortunately, Ross Perot turned out to be somewhat of a wacko. However, the idea of new political parties making a difference is worth looking into. Many people are upset with the way things run, but do they vote for change? No!

In following posts, I will explore some different democracies in the world and see what political parties they have to offer.
