If your only concern these days is how to find the best acne treatment, you are probably a teenager who doesn’t realize that the future might cost them a bit more. I recently read about the CLASS (Community Living Assistance Services and Supports) Act that was added into the Health Care Reform Bill. Those in favor of the bill would have you believe that it will be making money, but this is far from the truth. The CLASS Act provides for long term care assistance.

The CLASS Act is a voluntary health care program that will charge premiums. Low income individuals may pay as little as $5 per month for the premiums. Individuals are enrolled automatically and payments will be deducted right from your paycheck. With an extra effort on your part you can opt out. In the first ten years of the Act, it will look like the government is actually taking in money. But, wait until people start using the benefits. The Act calls for $50 a day payout or $18,250 per year with NO lifetime limit. This could add up quickly. Will it eventually be paying out more than it is taking in?

If this remains as part of health care reform, make sure that you opt out if you don’t want the coverage or you could be paying extra every month.

Some of the addicts choose to enter drug and/or alcohol detox and rehabilitation. It is really sad to watch when some of these addicts refuse to enter the programs. The family members stop supporting their habits and some of them may end up extremely sick or even dead. The show has actually been running since 2005, but I am now just catching some of the episodes.

The new health care bill provides for fines for these companies, but seeing that they will be fined only $2,000 per employee, that is much less than some health care coverage. While coverage for some treatments, such as acne on neck may seem trivial, coverage for large health care problems could lapse while insurance is changing hands. I wonder if the government has any plans to change this part of the health care bill?

I just read an interesting article by a student at Rutgers University. I didn’t realize that Rutgers University actually had the nickname Slutgers and that some sexual transmitted diseases are on the rise there and across the country. I wonder too if herpes simplex 1, or cold sores are on the rise as well, but then again, maybe there isn’t much kissing going on!

The article mentions how we often compare ourselves to monkeys or apes to excuse behavior. Such as the bonobo which has sexual orgies to relieve tension (they also practice cannibalism). I love this paragraph from the article:

Maybe that’s why they call it evolution. We have evolved. We are supposed to be the better version. We’ve developed willpower and self-control, things that bonobos don’t have. Why would we look backwards in trying to justify our promiscuity? Perhaps because, deep down, that’s the only justification we can find, as poor as it is. Maybe &- just maybe &- we know it’s wrong and that bonobos are just a convenient excuse for living without standards, discipline or responsibility. If we could accept that and stop looking to apes and people who act like them as moral compasses in a sex-crazed world, then perhaps we can finally find the opportunity to obtain something a little deeper, something that won’t leave us alone with a herpes simplex on Sunday morning. So, how about it, Slutgers? I’m getting a little tired of the bonobos in New Brunswick who gave us the nickname. Aren’t you?

While some hospitals are closing, others are clamoring for new employees. And while unemployment rates are still high many are opting for medical assistant school, or other medical field training. It will be interesting to see if the changes in the health care pan out for new jobs. One thing is for certain, changes will be coming after September 23, 2010. Included for the changes in individual policies are how pre-existing coverage is handled and the maximum age a child can stay on their parent’s health insurance plan.

Unfortunately, if your policy is up for renewal before September 23rd, you may not see any changes to your plan until the following year. That’s just how it works.

Part of the requirements in the new health care bill passed by congress earlier this year is the requirement that every American have health care insurance. You must either be covered through your employer, buy an individual plan (from companies such as BCBSNC, Aetna or Cigna), or get your health care from the government (which includes Medicaid and Medicare).

Some, including, The Goldwater Institute who filed suit against the health care bill, believe that this is unconstitutional. Arizona House Speaker Kirk Adams states why this is an issue:

Health care decisions belong to individual Americans and health care policy decisions belong to states.

The right to make individual choices is still a basis of the Constitution. That seems to be changing.

Sometimes, though, we forget that certain things could be covered. I had a dental procedure covered once under health insurance because it could affect my overall health. Things such as acne cleanser or acne treatment may also be covered if approved by your doctor. If you are in doubt, don’t hesitate to ask your doctor if it can be covered and if you can see a specialist.
