I remember hearing the report about the picketing of several soldiers funerals. One of these funerals was Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder. Snyder’s father, Albert Snyder, sued Fred Phelps, the founder of a fundamentalist church in Topeka, KS and won a $5 million judgment that was later overturned. The court has now ordered that Snyder pay the court costs which are around $16,000. Snyder, besides having to pay for part of the funeral costs, will now have to pay court costs.

The group, who held up signs such as “You’re going to hell,” “God hates you” and “Thank God for dead soldiers,” believe that God is punishing the United States for the sin of homosexuality. The attorney for the church as indicated that the money will be used to pay for more demonstrations.

These people can believe what they want to believe, put isf they are truly a Christian Chruch than this is not very Christ like

For years, we have been spending money on defense projects with a different enemy in mind. Now, that we are still fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense, has started to change the spending focus of the Department.

Instead of spending money on high-tech weapons systems, more money is being spent on armored truck accessories and vehicles and basic weapons that can be deployed easily to Iraq and Afghanistan. Oshkosh Corp is is hiring hundreds of employees to produce blast-resistant all-terrain armored trucks.

Some companies, like Boeing and Lockheed are seeing division shut down. The Air Force is simply not in the market right now for more fighter planes.

Today, New Jersey welcomed home 2,900 National Guard troops who had been serving in Iraq for the past year. A parade was held in their honor in Trenton, New Jersey. A nineteen gun salute started the parade and many onlookers were seen holding signs saying “Thank You” and “Welcome Home.” Not one soldier was killed during the year they were deployed in Iraq.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitted that she did know about waterboarding in 2003, but still claims that she was not “fully” briefed by the CIA and that they had mislead her. CIA Director Leon E. Panetta countered with the statement that it is not the agency’s “policy or practice to mislead Congress.” According to the Washington Times:

Mrs. Pelosi has been under fire for her conflicting stories since CIA documents released last week indicated the agency briefed her Sept. 4, 2002, on specific interrogation techniques used on Abu Zubaydah, a suspected al Qaeda terrorist held at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention site.

Trying to contain the dispute, Mrs. Pelosi Friday said her criticisms were aimed at the Bush administration officials who she said tried to conceal the interrogation policies, and not at the CIA.

This is about the fifth time that Ms. Pelosi has changed her story. She gets a little flustered in this video of one of her recent press conferences:

If you are looking to send gift baskets to friends and family in the United States, Chesapeake Bay Gift Baskets has a nice selection. But, suppose you would like to send a gift basket to a soldier serving in Iraq?

Treats for Troops is an organization that was founded by Deborah Crane in 2003. She wanted to make it safe and simple for Americans to send packages and messages of support to our troops. You can even Foster-A-Soldier by selecting a military branch, State and area of deployment or let them choose a soldier for you. Then just shop for a gift basket and your choice will be sent to a soldier who will be very happy!

What war you might ask? Media coverage of the war in Iraq has been very slight over the last couple of months. Does this mean that the media is focused on other things, such as the Presidential Primary Elections? Maybe. But, I think it is because there is too much GOOD news coming out of Iraq.

Many of the areas in Iraq are becoming more stable. The military surge seems to be working. Of course, one suicide bomber and the media is all over that. It would be nice to hear the good news and not just the bad news about the war.

As our service men and women arrive back home and begin military relocation, remember to thank them for a service well done!

Apparently, terrorists don’t need tool storage to house their box cutters and flammable shoes. Instead they are turning to an internet tool – Google Earth. Google Earth has been helping terrorists plan attacks on British bases in Basra. Army intelligence found a shed full of printouts from Google Earth when a house of a suspected insurgent was raided. The pictures were able to show buildings inside the bases and vulnerable areas as well.

The internet is a great tool. Unfortunately, it can be a great tool for terrorists as well.
