Teen Ink, an online magazine written for teens by teens, publishes weekly polls on their site. Past polls have included “Which Social Networking Site Do You Use?” and “If You Could Have a Superpower What Would It Be?”, but the one I found interesting was “Where Do You Stand Politically?”

We tend to think that teens are generally worried about how to get rid of acne, who they are hanging out with after school, or what music is on their iPods. Today’s teens, however, are becoming more politically active. While most tend to have their parents belief system, teens are starting to have their own voice as well.

The poll had the following results:

Moderate – 28%
Liberal – 25%
Very Liberal – 17%
Conservative – 17%
Very Conservative – 10%

What would be interesting is to ask these same teens how they stand politically in twenty years when they have had a chance to get a job and start raising a family.

As I have often said, the two party system does not seem to be working too well. Why? The American people just don’t fit into two categories any more. I propose a new four party system that will better balance Congress, however Presidential Elections would simply fall apart. Could any one win with just 25% of the vote? Here are the parties:

Socialism Party – this is basically the party that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are advocating anyway. Why not make it official. The government would run everyone’s life and individual freedoms would be few and far between.

Democrat Party – for those Dems that are not quite on the Socialist bandwagon. They still are Pro-choice, Pro-gun control and for a big government.

Republican Party – These are for the Republicans that have basically given up on conservative values. They tend to be Pro-choice and Pro-gun control. They also tend toward a big government, but would like to see national security as a top issue including increased or stable military spending.

Conservative Party – SMALL government, state’s rights, pro-life, 2nd amendment rights, lower taxes. All the issues that conservatives SHOULD be voting for. And, by the way, John McCain is NO conservative!

Cindy Sheehan, war protester, has decided that if Nancy Pelosi doesn’t start impeachment hearings on President Bush by July 23rd, she is going to run for Pelosi’s Senate seat in 2008. Sounds a little like blackmail, right? Sheehan, whose son was killed in the war, would run as a independent. She does not live in the district (she lives outside Sacramento), and she won’t even need to procure herself a real estate broker, since California does not require residency in the district you are running for.

Sheehan not only hates President Bush (and all Republicans), she is now turning on the Democrats as well. She believes that they have “caved in” to the President and are not doing the job she wants them to do. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens on July 23rd.

Do you pick your Vacation Rentals by what looks appealing to your family? I have heard that some people are now picking their vacation spots by if it is located in a Red or Blue State. When I traveled to Washington State a few years ago, I bought a children’s book by Dick Cheney’s wife, Lynne, which I thought looked very interesting (When Washington Crossed the Delaware). My daughter had just been studying the subject in school and I thought it might interest her. I didn’t buy the book because Cheney’s wife wrote it. I bought it because it was well done and had great pictures.

The cashier gave me a strange look and said “Are you from out of state?” I replied yes. Then she said “We don’t get many people purchasing this book here.” She went on to add that she thought the book was wonderful. Too bad that there were many who missed out on a great children’s book because of what others might think if they bought a book by Lynne Cheney!

NoMoreIncumbents.org is asking bloggers some simple questions to get a perspective on voting habits in America.

We are asking bloggers 7 questions in a series to gather more perspective about where voters are these days in the United States and around the world. We know how WE feel about incumbents but knowing how YOU feel is so much more important!

Here are the Questions, (send us your answers via email to info@nomoreincumbents.org and we’ll post them in a future article! )

1. If everything else were the same about 2 candidates, would you vote for an incumbent or a new candidate?

2. Why?

3. Do you think that politicians become more corrupt as they stay in office or Washington longer?

4. Why?

5. What State and Country do you live in?

6. What is your first name and last inital?

7. Do you have a blog and if so what is your url?

The Democrats, on promises of fiscal responsibility and ethics reform, took control of the House in January. Now it is February so I guess all bets are off. Nancy Pelosi, new Speaker of the House, is asking for “routine access to military aircraft for domestic flights.” This practice is not new. After 9/11, Speaker Hastert was provided a military jet for trips back to his home state of Illinois. Since the Speaker is the second in line to become President, increased security is warranted.

Here is the kicker. According to the Washington Times “… sources, who include those in Congress and in the administration, said the Democrat is seeking regular military flights not only for herself and her staff, but also for relatives and for other members of the California delegation. A knowledgeable source called the request “carte blanche for an aircraft any time.”

Doesn’t sound like fiscal responsibility to me. And aren’t the Democrats the ones looking out for the environment as well? Extra military jet flights will improve the environment dramtically don’t you think?
