The city of Olympia, Washington wants to be known as an equal opportunity town. This year, they are allowing a sign, by Atheists to be placed next to a Nativity display at the Legislative Building. The sign says:

“At this season of THE WINTER SOLSTICE may reason prevail.

There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is buy a myth and a superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”

The sign was put there by the Freedom from Religion Foundation and was stolen shortly after being placed there. The sign was recently recovered and will be replaced.

I don’t think that people were offended that a sign celebrating the Winter Solstice was placed, however, the sign went further to actually attack religion. Dan Barker, a member of the Freedom from Religion group said:

“It’s not that we are trying to coerce anyone; in a way our sign is a signal of protest. If there can be a Nativity scene saying that we are all going to hell if we don’t bow down to Jesus, we should be at the table to share our views.”

Where does it say on the Nativity that atheists are going to hell if they don’t bow down to Jesus. It doesn’t. And, there are a number of Christian religions that believe that no one is going to hell. To put up a sign that is so offensive to another group is totally off base and wrong.

For the past twenty years or so, this country has been spouting the diversity ideology. This ideology is about including people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds and encouraging tolerance for people of different backgrounds. Affirmative Action was a policy that was supposed to promote access to educational and employment opportunities for those racial minorities and women.

Congress has tried in the past to force diversity with Affirmative Action policies. Of course, they don’t look at their own backyard first. The fact is, we have too many LAWYERS in congress!

There are 535 members of Congress (House and Senate). Of those members, 217 list their occupation as lawyer, 274 were former state legislators, 107 were congressional staffers and 195 listed public service as their occupation (these numbers do not add up to 535 since members can list more than one occupation). Only 4 members were pilots and 12 members were doctors.

We need to see these occupations in Congress: Plumber, Teacher, Principal, Engineer, Computer Programmer, Mom.

For some reason I just don’t think that lawyers and former state legislators have a grasp on what the average United State Citizens concerns are.

Are Women Treated Better by the Left?

Every time I hear about women’s rights I want to scream! Ever since the 1960s and the feminist movement, an elite group of women have been clamoring that women need equality. Now, I am not one to think that women are inferior to men, I just believe that women and men have different strengths and qualities. In my opinion, the left only values certain women. Watch out if you are a stay at home mom, pro-life or even a wife (think of the vilification of Sarah Palin). The left wants women to believe that the best “place” for them is in the work force, as a single mom, without a husband. Hasn’t this been glorified on television, movies and books?

If Obama wins the Presidency he has stated that he would review any constraints that exist to have women in every place in the military. Women should have and do have the right to serve. However, if they want the right to be treated as a man, then they must do everything a man can. There have been many complaints about the “dumbing” down of basic training so that women can be accommodated. Six to seven mile runs and now only two to three miles. Combat rating scales have been manipulated to push more women into “front-line” roles. There is even talk about giving women hormones to stop monthly cycles so that they could be “combat-ready.”

It is a shame that women can not treat other women with more respect. Respect for what they believe in, respect for choices, respect for strength.

I wonder if a new President has new carpets installed in the White House? Of course, unlike you and me, he/she probably won’t shop at a discount store. If YOU need new carpeting, you might try a discount store such as directbuy. DirectBuy is a members only showroom that offers not only carpets, but other home goods as well.

Most retail stores mark up their prices by an average of 43.3%! Unbelievable. DirectBuy charges a membership fee, but you are able to buy home goods at manufacturer-direct prices. If only the federal government shopped around for services like we do!

I just read an interesting article by Martha Zoller at Human Events. She starts her article by addressing a question posed to Barack Obama at Manchester Central High School last week:

Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.) stopped by a study hall at Manchester Central High School last week and answered students’ questions about the war in Iraq and his education plan. But when an adult asked about his time as a student, Obama launched into his “youthful indiscretions” regarding his drug and alcohol use and “goofing off” at school. That poor adult asking the questions was probably just looking for a nice fluffy answer about applying yourself at school and got a national controversy.

Ms. Zoller then goes on to question the prudence of sometimes enforcing the laws. For example, she notes that Obama said his drug use was “youthful indiscretions,” yet you have children (and adults) in poorer neighborhoods who are put in jail for such “indiscretions.” She notes that one of the greatest needs our society has is drug rehabilitation for convicts in detention centers. I would have to agree that this is part of the problem. Not only do we need adequate drug rehab, but we need adequate “self” rehab. Having people realize that they can be a productive and valuable member of society will go a long way.

The whole article is well worth reading!
