13 Year Old Marries Nigerian Senator

Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima is one of the leaders who brought Sharia law to Nigeria. Now it seems that he is taking full advantage. In the United States, a young women, usually in her twenties or thirties, looks forward to mailing out bridal shower invitations, shopping for a wedding dress and planning a reception.

However, in other countries, things are quite different. Yerima, 49, has just married a 13 year old girl. The arranged marriage included a $100,000 dowry payed by Yerima to the girls family. The girl is Egyptian and there were originally some visa issues in bringing the girl to Nigeria so instead Yerima brought the girl to Niger and then on to Nigeria.

A complaint has been filed by the Nigerian Human Rights Commission.

National Days

When of the things that Congress does is make National Days. Many special interests lobby for a special National Day. Some National Days include:

My favorite is July 7th, National Strawberry Sundae Day. I am going to have a box of chocolate covered strawberries shipped to myself to commemorate that day!

Levi for Mayor?

Levi Johnston may be so young that he still needs creams for acne, but he is running for Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. It isn’t going to be any ordering run, it is also going to be a reality show. According to a press release from Stone and Co. Entertainment, the show will be titled “Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office,” it will chronicle Johnston’s dual pursuits in Hollywood and his “red-neck” life as a single dad, skilled hunter, avid biker and wannabe politician looking for love and success back home in Alaska. Not sure this one will be on my watch list!

Which of our Presidents played musical instruments? We all know that President Clinton played the saxophone, but were any other Presidents musically inclined?

Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826) – Third president of the United States, played the cello, clavichord and violin.

John Quincy Adams (1767 – 1848) – The sixth president of the United States played the flute.

Chester Alan Arthur (1829 – 1886)- The 21st president, played the banjo.

Woodrow Wilson (1856 – 1924) – The 28th president of the United States, played the violin.

Harry Truman (1884 – 1972) – The 33rd president used to play piano at the White House.

Richard Nixon (1913 – 1994) – The 37th president played the piano and accordion.

Bill Clinton (born August 19, 1946) – The 42nd president of the United States, plays the saxophone.

Weird Politics – Romania Elects Dead Guy

A small town in Romania decided that change would be too much to handle, so they elected the incumbent mayor again. Unfortunately, he is dead.

“Neculai Ivascu, 57, who ran the village for almost two decades, died from liver disease just after voting began — but still won the election by a margin of 23 votes.

A local official said the authorities decided to keep the poll open in case Ivascu’s opponent, Gheorghe Dobrescu, won, avoiding the need for a re-run.

“I know he died, but I don’t want change,” a pro-Ivascu villager told Romanian television.

In the end, election authorities gave the post to the runner-up, but some villagers and Ivascu’s party, the powerful opposition Social Democrat Party (PSD), have called for a new vote.”

Maybe the city would have benefit from getting a life insurance quote for the mayor before his untimely death.

Weird Politics – Lingerie

Now something from the annals of weird politics. Back in 2004, a Zimbabwean politician offended the party he was representing when it was determined that he was handing out hot lingerie in order to gain women voters. I certainly hope that the women were smarter than to accept something like this for their vote. It might have been a little more appropriate to hand out food and other life necessities in a country where $100 a month is the average salary.
