The Senate is at it again. A bill passed on Sunday for $1.1 trillion dollars contains plenty of pork. This bill increases the budgets of many government office without asking those offices to find and reduce waste and unnecessary spending.

Included in the bill is $3.9 billion in spending for “local projects” which translates into projects sought by Senators to appease their constituents. These projects include construction of a county farmer’s market in Kentucky, renovation of a historic theater in New York and restoration of a mill in Rhode Island.

The bill also includes a pay increase of 2% for federal employees at a time when many people are out of work or underemployed. The government just does not seem to get it.
