The Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010, also know as the jobs bill was designed to as state aid to save thousands of teacher and government worker jobs. But does the bill actually create jobs? Not really. Instead, it looks like unemployment will remain at about 9.5%

This bill brings the total direct federal spending on the economy to nearly $1.2 trillion since 2007. And, it may not be over yet. Even though the first stimulus package netted zero jobs but put the United States into further debt, Congress may try it again. That is, if they can keep their jobs come November!

Every time I turn around I hear news reports about how the economy is improving. This has been happening since Obama took office almost two years ago. Unfortunately, the numbers just don’t add up. Most of my friends, families and neighbors are not spending money unwisely, usually wait for sale items and are worried about job losses and the raising costs.

Just this week, it was reported that home resales dropped 27.2% to an annual rate of 3.83 million in July. In some parts of the country, sales were down 45%. This in turn caused a drop on Wall Street. This video by Fox News, explains some of rate is going on.

Wednesday Hero has never been issued a warning before but I felt it necessary for this one. This post contains graphic descriptions of torture and brutality that some may find it difficult to read.

This weeks Wednesday Hero is dedicated to thousands of men who lost their lives in April of 1942 in what has become known as the Bataan Death March.

On April 9, 1942 Major General Edward P. King, Jr. surrendered 75,000+ men (Filipinos, Chinese Filipinos, and Americans) who had been fighting the Japanese since January of that year when they launched a full scale invasion of The Philippines. They were starving and wracked with disease. Upon their surrender the men were robbed of their possessions and forced into a 61 mile, 5-12 day, march to Camp O’Donnell. Along the way men were brutally beaten, staved of food and water, some had their throats cut, some were beheaded, some died to disease or exposure or untreated wounds and others were simply executed. In all the death tally is unknown but it’s estimated that between 6,000 to as many as 20,000 men didn’t survive the march.

Maj. Richard Gordon: “I didn’t come down with a surrender group. They caught me actually two days after the surrender took place. First thing I did was receive a good beating. And everything I had in my wallet, in my pockets was taken from me. And as I was marched down that road, where they captured me, I passed my battalion commander, Major James Ivy, and he had been tied to a tree and he was stripped to the waist and he was just covered with bayonet holes. He was dead obviously. And he had bled profusely. He had been bayonetted by many, many bayonets. And that’s when I knew we had some troubles on our hands. We were in for deep trouble. And they brought us down into a staging area and put me in with the rest of the thousands that were assembled on the side of the road, and that’s where I spent my first night.”

Here’s a great link with more information and interviews with survivors.

The sacrifice and Hell that these men went through will not be forgotten. I don’t know about anyone else, but I never learned about this while in school. If you’re children aren’t being taught this piece of history make sure that you do it for them. These men must be remembered and honored.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

While some hospitals are closing, others are clamoring for new employees. And while unemployment rates are still high many are opting for medical assistant school, or other medical field training. It will be interesting to see if the changes in the health care pan out for new jobs. One thing is for certain, changes will be coming after September 23, 2010. Included for the changes in individual policies are how pre-existing coverage is handled and the maximum age a child can stay on their parent’s health insurance plan.

Unfortunately, if your policy is up for renewal before September 23rd, you may not see any changes to your plan until the following year. That’s just how it works.

I recently returned from a trip to the west coast and I sure wished that I had read some netbook reviews before I left. Although my daughter had her laptop with her, I really think a netbook would have been a better option for me. I really need to get some work done and a small, web connected netbook would have been a much better choice for me.

Since I work from home, and use the internet for most of my work, buying a small netbook, would be the best option. Netbooks are smaller laptops without the extras, such as a DVD drive. They come with limited computing power and smaller hard drives as well. But if your business is mainly on the web, this should not be a problem.

Ben Quayle, son of former vice-president Dan Quayle, is running for the congress from Arizona. He is among 10 others vying for the job. Recently, Quayle released a television ad highlighting why he thinks President Obama is the worst President in history. Here is his list:

1.	He has loaded up every child in this nation with more debt than any President in history.
2.	With his policies and the threat of more such policy, he has destroyed more wealth than any human being in history, which is always what happens when you set out to redistribute wealth: you end up destroying it.
3.	He has brought us to the brink of the most massive tax increases in history and if we don’t elect enough Republicans in November to stop him that is exactly what we will get.
4.	He has forced through legislation without a single republican vote that may well destroy the finest health care system in history when all we needed were some measures to control costs.
5.	He has divided America along racial lines in destructive ways and he is doing so again by suing Arizona over its attempt to control the drug trade and human smuggling trade threatening its security.
6.	He has failed to form a policy to adequately deal with the vicious Mexican drug cartels that are essentially running parts of that nation and becoming an increasing threat to ours.
7.	He has traveled the world making apologies for America instead of defending its timeless and treasured ideals of freedom and peace for all nations of good will.
8.	He has said there is nothing exceptional about America, something no other president has ever said and something which alone suggests he is a historically poor president.
9.	He has hired people of strange and radical views to hold important federal posts in which they pursue more bad policy that no administration in history has ever pursued.

He makes some pretty good points!

Part of the requirements in the new health care bill passed by congress earlier this year is the requirement that every American have health care insurance. You must either be covered through your employer, buy an individual plan (from companies such as BCBSNC, Aetna or Cigna), or get your health care from the government (which includes Medicaid and Medicare).

Some, including, The Goldwater Institute who filed suit against the health care bill, believe that this is unconstitutional. Arizona House Speaker Kirk Adams states why this is an issue:

Health care decisions belong to individual Americans and health care policy decisions belong to states.

The right to make individual choices is still a basis of the Constitution. That seems to be changing.

Amid ethics charges, Charlie Rangel, Democratic Representative from New York, celebrated his 80th birthday. Rangel, a house veteran of 20 years, plans to start his campaigning soon. The question is, should there be a required retirement age for senators and representatives? My answer is no. And my reason is, instead there should be term limits. Serving as a senator or representative was never meant to be a full time job for a life time. Serve your country for two or three terms and then get out! Becoming ingrained in the system leads to corruption and, as you can see, ethics problems.
