Judicial Watch is a organization that reports on the morally and ethically corrupt in politics. They just released there 2008 list of the Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians for 2008.

Topping the list is Senator Hillary Clinton, soon to be Secretary of State. According to judicial watch:
” . . . Hillary Clinton is constitutionally ineligible to serve as Secretary of State in the Obama administration. According to the Ineligibility Clause of the United States Constitution, no member of Congress can be appointed to an office that has benefited from a salary increase during the time that Senator or Representative served in Congress.” And guess what, in 2008, the Secretary of State position received a salary increase while Clinton was serving as Senator.

Others on the list include Chris Dodd, Senator (CT) and Jerry Lewis, the Representative from California. Dishonorable mentions include Former Senator John Edwards who while pledging love to his sick wife was having an affair with a staffer. Money from his campaign was purportedly used to pay off his “girlfriend” in the amount of $15,000 per month. More than enough to buy designer clothes and Ju Ju Be diaper bags for the upcoming love child.

The whole list is a very interesting read.

The Federal Government sent Chrysler a $4 billion bridge loan to help it remain in operations. I am wondering when the government is going to send me money to help me with my car loan, mortgage and other bills that I have. As it is, I am thinking about getting some more car insurance quotes just so that I can lower my bills!

Chrysler Chief Executive Bob Nardelli stated that the money would “allow the company to continue an orderly restructuring, while pursuing our vision to build the fuel-efficient, high-quality cars and trucks people want to buy.” Nardelli is hoping that Congress will “loan” him an additional $3 billion.

If Chrysler hasn’t been able to compete and build fuel-efficient cars yet, what makes Congress think that they will be able to do this in the future?

Unfortunately, the high price that is paid for some pictures, can make them go out of their way for the best pictures.

$700 Billion in economic stimulus money is simply not enough according to Jon Corzine, Governor of New Jersey. Corzine wants to see $1 trillion in stimulus money to be used for infrastructure, education and middle class tax cuts.

I am sure Governor Corzine has his own agenda in proposing this. You see, New Jersey is in its own financial crisis. Years of poor planning, overspending and fiscal mismanagement have put this state in a great big hole. I am sure that Corzine would love to see more money handed out by the Federal Government to fix New Jersey’s problems instead of doing it the old-fashioned way - cutting spending.

If Corzine does not get a hand out for New Jersey, you can expect that he will do the next best thing - raise taxes!

Now that politics is not only about serving your country, but how good you look, many politicians have opted to lose weight before running for office. Some may be turning to weight loss pills, but it seems that most are using the good old fashioned eat less and exercise more. Mike Huckabee lost more than 100 pounds and authored the book Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork: A 12-Stop Program to End Bad Habits and Begin a Healthy Lifestyle.

In 2006, Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante of California, offered weight loss advice on a website while running for State Insurance Commissioner. Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue threw his Snickers bar into a crowd at the state capitol to launch his Live Healthy Georgia campaign in 2003. He lost weight and told reporters: “I’m a hunk.”

Also losing weight was Bill Bolling, Virginia’s lieutenant Governor. He pledged to drop 30 pounds by the end of the year in 2006.

Does all this help? Any positive media attention is always good for politicians and there are those who vote based on looks alone, so it can’t hurt!

Being a politician today is more about looks and charisma than it is about getting the job done. It makes me wonder how many plastic surgery and Washington DC teeth whitening places there are.

Governor Blogjevich from Illinois, looks like the perfect celebrity politician - full head of hair, perfect teeth, great looking family. But that didn’t stop him from being corrupt and trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat. Blogjevich has refused to resign and is probably facing impeachment. Three of the last eight governors of Illinois have gone to prison.

I found an interesting video at the Americans for Prosperity site today. I am including it here for your viewing pleasure, and I am also including my notes in case you don’t want to watch the video.

In the 1930s there was an economist by the name of John Maynard Keynes. Keynes held that the economy could be boosted if government borrowed money and spent it. The resulting theory was called Keynesianism. Supposedly, this spending would put money in peoples pockets and people would spend it. This theory held that people would help the economy recover by spending money. This could be done by that tax cuts and rebates which would get money back into the consumer’s hands who would spend it.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t work. Government can’t inject money into the economy without taking money out of the economy. The government borrows the money thus redistributing the money. New money is not made. Some people think that it will help the economy because it puts money into the hands of the consumers and is not sitting idle. However, the money is not sitting idle, it is in the banking system and is used to finance investments. Others claim that people will not lend and borrow in a weak economy, instead, in that type of environment, people will save more and the money ends up in banks anyway.

If the government prints money, this devalues the money and causes rampant inflation as seen in countries such as Zimbabwe and Argentina.

President Hoover increased tax rates from 25% to 63% for the top tier, added tariffs to goods and he boosted government spending by 47% in just four years. In 1929 there was a surplus and when he left four year later, there was a deficit. The results? Growth went down and unemployment went up.

Under Roosevelt, the top tax rate was boosted to 79% and government spending increased raising 106% from 1933 to 1940. This did not work either. Unemployment remained high through the 1930s and it took World War II to increase production levels.

Ford gave tax rebates in an economy stimulus package in the 1970s and the economy did not improve.

G.W. Bush gave out rebate checks in 2001 and 2008 and that had no effect. Government spending increased and this did not help the economy.

Japan tried to use stimulus packages recently to jump start the economy and this did nothing but raise their national debt.

Obama’s team need to think carefully before trying a Keynesianism approach to improving the economy.
