Pelosi’s Claim on Tax Cuts

Nancy Pelosi is very pleased with herself. She was able to pass an enormous spending bill and is now working on health care reform and energy policies. According to one source:
“There is no excuse possible not to act. The economy requires this,” she said.
There is little agreement over how to pay for health care changes that could add more than $1 trillion to the budget over the next 10 years, but Pelosi said rolling back tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans was the right thing to do.
“Tax cuts for the rich have done nothing to grow the economy,” the speaker said.
Pelosi may want health care reform and be able to insure all Americans, but to state that the economy requires this is going a bit far. And, I am not sure that her assessment of tax cuts for the rich having nothing to due with growing the economy is spot on either. Any one who is getting less money is going to cut back and cutting back usually means less spending and less jobs.
The health care reform issue is still a bit fuzzy and needs to be really ironed out. Is this going to be an all inclusive coverage for things like treatment for acne and chiropractic services, or is it only going to cover basic medical needs? Hopefully, the Obama Administration won’t ram through a plan that is not thought out properly. Wait, isn’t that what they did with the economic stimulus plan?
