Senator Max Baucus’ Health Care Plan

The newest health care plan to try and make it through the Senate Finance Committee is one proposed by Senator Max Baucus, Democrat from Montana. Baucus has predicted that his health care bill will cost $900 billion over 10 years.
To try and gain support from liberal Democrats, Baucus has tried to boost subsidies for financially strapped people who would be required to buy insurance and slashed proposed penalties for those who did not comply with the insurance mandate. He is also limiting how many people would be subject to a 35% tax on high end health plans.
Still the proposal has many concerned. Will citizens be able to obtain their own insurance quote and shop around for insurance plans, or will they be forced into one plan?
And just what is a high end health plan? I don’t even know if my health plan would be considered high end. Would I be forced to pay a 35% tax on my health plan?
Plus, take a look at what happened in Hawaii. In an effort to try and provide health insurance for poor children, loopholes allowed parents to drop their children from their existing plan and enroll them in the State plan, causing the program to come to a screeching halt due to overspending.
Again, it seems that we act first and think about the consequences later. This type of far reaching bill should not be rushed to a vote, but should be researched and debated with politicians, health providers and citizens all providing input.
