It is almost July 4th and that means fireworks, parades, barbecues and, of course, the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, New York.

This year, the 94th annual event is expected to be attended by more than 30,000 people. These spectators will most likely watch grown men down more than 50 hot dogs each! These contenders have tricks that allow them to down the hot dogs and at no time is one of those tricks involve taking an appetite suppressant!
Last year, Joey Chestnut won the day by downing 59 hot dogs to tie Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi. The tie was decided by a five hot dog eat off.
According to legend, the first competition was between four immigrants who wanted to settle an argument about who was the most patriotic. Neer Sehgal was crowned the victor after eating thirteen hot dogs.
The winner of the contest gets a “bejeweled” mustard-yellow belt.
