It used to be there were only two place to gamble – Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Now, new gambling establishments are popping up all over the place. Roulette wheels, poker tables and slot machines are now the norm in a number of small towns. Some towns have seen an increase in quality of life due to income from gambling houses. But will it last? The more places to gamble, the more likely that the gamblers will be local residents. Are towns and cities prepared to handles the number of residents who “lose it all?” This does not only effect the gambler, but the gambler’s family. Many of these local residents may find themselves without homes, income or food and seeking public assistance. Will the money raised by casinos outweigh the havoc they are sure to cause in some gambler’s lives? Only time will tell.
