Spending Focus Changes at Defense Department

For years, we have been spending money on defense projects with a different enemy in mind. Now, that we are still fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense, has started to change the spending focus of the Department.
Instead of spending money on high-tech weapons systems, more money is being spent on armored truck accessories and vehicles and basic weapons that can be deployed easily to Iraq and Afghanistan. Oshkosh Corp is is hiring hundreds of employees to produce blast-resistant all-terrain armored trucks.
Some companies, like Boeing and Lockheed are seeing division shut down. The Air Force is simply not in the market right now for more fighter planes.

As a member of the military I am amazed how much waste the DoD has. That being said it seems insane to cut spending to vital programs while we are giving billions of dollars to groups like ACORN.
