New Jersey Politics at its Best

New Jersey’s primary election was held this Tuesday and I did my duty and voted. Unfortunately, not all New Jersey residents see things the same way. One of the goals of this primary was to choose who would be on the Democratic and Republican tickets for Governor in November. A little over 500,000 people voted in this primary election – about 10% of the population of New Jersey.
Even as our current Governor’s approval rating is sinking (he currently has an approval rating of 40%), and most people are not happy with the way the state is running, the votes did not show this disapproval. Instead Corzine won his primary easily.
And then there is the threat of the old switch-a-roo. Rumors have it that if Chris Christie’s (the Republican candidate) poll numbers are higher than Corzine’s in the near future, the Democrats will switch candidates. Somehow, Corzine will get an appointment in the Obama Administration and another Democrat will be called in to fill his place.
Don’t think this can’t happen? It did before when Toricelli was running for State Senator, found his approval ratings (and his ethics) in the toilet. Toricelli was pulled from the race and Frank Lautenberg inserted on the ballot at the last minute. Of course, like the good sheep that they are, New Jersians voted for Lautenberg simply because they knew his name.
If Corzine gets elected again, I have lost all respect for New Jersey voters.
