Older is Better?

Frank Lautenberg is running for another term in the US Senate from New Jersey. He is 84 years old. When his term expires we will be 90. Lautenberg doesn’t think that you should consider is age – it seems that he has forgotten about his run against 72 year old Millicent Fenwick in 1982. Although he didn’t come right out and say that she was too old, he did make the point by making her appear older in television ads and questioning her ability to do the job.

Supposedly, Lautenberg is in great health. In fact, when questioned about his health last year, he had his health records and cholesterol levels faxed to the reporter. I wouldn’t be shocked if we next saw him giving a press conference while using a treadmill.

Opinion polls have shown that a majority of New Jersey voters believe that he is too old to run again and 58% believe he has been around too long. But, we live in what I like to call a sheep state. If you are a Democrat in New Jersey you will blindly follow the Democrats off a cliff if necessary. The majority of Democrats in this state will vote for Frank Lautenberg. Heck, they would even vote for him if he died before the election took place. And with all the complaining that goes on in this state, Jon Corzine would win reelection just because he is a Democrat.

New Jersey residents claim they want to clean up the corruption in this State, but until they are willing to vote out all the incumbents, whether it be Democratic OR Republican, nothing will change.
