Star Ledger Endorses Chris Daggett for Governor

In New Jersey, our governor’s race is heating up. The newspaper, The Star Ledger, who over the last four years has been decidedly pro-Corzine, the Democrat incumbent, has decided to endorse the independent, Chris Daggett, instead. While I am all for independents in the race, I see The Star Ledger’s move to endorse Daggett has a ploy to convince independents and others unhappy with how New Jersey is run, to vote for Daggett instead of the Republican Chris Christie. The more votes that are thrown to Daggett, the bigger chance that Corzine will become the ultimate victor.
The Star Ledger is a little too liberal of a paper for my tastes and I tend to use it for garage flooring when I am spray painting and doing other projects. So, this move has me quite baffled. There could be another problem as well. The Star Ledger is sponsoring the a debate featuring the candidates on Saturday and according to election rules, you can not endorse a candidate and sponsor a debate. Let’s see how they wriggle out of that one. In New Jersey, anything can happen. We have been known to flaunt election rules in the past!
