Obama’s New Public Website

President-elect Obama has decided to institute a public website – Change.gov. This website will keep Americans informed about new cabinet member choices before he becomes President and about pending legislation and Presidential decisions after he becomes President. Good idea? I think it is a fantastic idea for the 18-49 year old crowd who tends to use the internet for sources of information. Not only will information about Obama’s Presidency be posted on the website, but supposedly, you will be able to comment on pending legislation.
What drawbacks do I see? Comments on pending legislation may be skewed. As I mentioned above, internet users tend to be in a certain age demographic. This leaves out older Americans for one. For another, do Americans who comment on website fit a different demographic that those who don’t? Are they more liberal, more conservative? There are plenty of ways that comments on pending legislation can be skewed to one direction or the other and there would be no way of knowing.
What changes would I like to see? I would love to see every issue that Obama listed on his campaign website listed on the new website making it easy for the American people to see when those campaign promises are fulfilled. Somehow, I don’t think this is going to happen.
