Really?

After I wrote my post about the SNL sketch on President Obama and his zero accomplishments, the Nobel Peace Prize committee has the audacity to award Obama the Nobel Peace Prize. For what? Here are a few of the comments that I have heard over the last few days:
- The nominations were due just 10 days after President Obama took office. I don’t think he accomplished any long standing peace treaties, or negotiations in that 10 day period.
- Why don’t we just award Oscars to actors who we think will perform well in the coming year. Robert DeNiro is coming out with a new film which I am sure will be fantastic. Let’s just give him the Award now.
- Based on astrological signs and numerology we can predict if a newborn will become a Harvard scholar. Award scholarships based on fortune telling instead of actual accomplishments.
- I plan to invent the best acne treatment for teenagers and cure pimples as we know it. Won’t you preorder now?
A prize is not based on what you can accomplish, but what you HAVE accomplished.
